History

Selantek was incorporated in California on October of 1979 as an Engineering Services organization. Its charter was to produce technically superior, high yielding IC designs and processes. Selantek's expansion into Market Research was unforeseen at the time of its founding, but our clients - some of today's leading Semiconductor, Computer and Telecommunications manufacturers, believed that market research, product development and IC design are complementary and necessary functions.

Frequently, prior to beginning a design, Selantek was required to perform a market survey, so as to evaluate available and forthcoming products against the design's target specifications. We were also asked to contact OEMs and primary users in order to determine current and future trends in the target market.

By performing these extra services, Selantek amassed a database on new products, technologies and industrial trends which could be found nowhere else. Our engineering perspective was enhanced by our ability to evaluate user reactions to proposed product specifications and pricing. This ability in turn enabled us to become more valuable to the Semiconductor community. They found our direct, no-nonsense approach to projecting market growth and trends a refreshing change, and came to respect our staff for their insight and candor.

By 1983, our semiconductor database had grown to a level of confidence that permitted Selantek to offer its first Subscriber Services for the Semiconductor community. Unlike previous market research offerings, these Services were vertically oriented, giving product planners and marketing managers a comprehensive, in-depth picture of their specific market sector.

The market research database tracks the product from the manufacturer to the end user. It can therefore pinpoint consumption by application, region and major user while accounting for production by manufacturer and distribution channel.

Selantek maintains data collection facilities in 22 countries. Selantek works with graduate schools in Engineering and Computer Sciences in 36 countries to obtain data from local companies.

In the United States, Selantek has offices in Mountain View, California and Houston, Texas. Selantek employs 68 full time employees and up to 40 part time employees.

The core of our data gathering activities are telephone and personal interviews. Technical interviewing is done by engineers with at least three years of experience. Questionnaires are developed internally by specially trained personnel. Results are then modeled using a proprietary software system. Specific application data is obtained externally as are economic forecasts and tools.

We provide those who share their data with us with custom tailored data to meet their specific requirements in exchange for their cooperation.

In the early years of our existence we performed only custom studies, based on our interviews. We then became a purveyor of standard and multi-client market research reports. We also, over time, offered design services, intellectual property, software as well as consulting services to evaluate the technical merits of new products, product ideas and patentable intellectual property. More recently we have assisted existing customers with acquisitions, alliances and mergers. We have been rewarded with stock as well as cash.

In 2002 Selantek teamed up with providers of information for financial institutions and specialty publications to supply them with semiconductor information. In addition Selantek receives data generated by its partners, which supplement its direct interview team. These arrangements have allowed Selantek to become a significant provider of technical research to companies and institutions in China and in the EU.

We thank you for your interest in Selantek. Selantek has been in business since 1979 and has never had a financial loss. We remain privately owned by our management and employees and our market research sales in calendar year 2008 exceeded $8 Million worldwide. Selantek also offers consulting services, forecasting and modeling software and publishes newsletters addressing Semiconductor design, manufacturing and consumption.
